Peptides for Skin: What They Are and What They Do

Posted by Kiri Yanchenko on

AMPERNA® recently added three new products to the range, each containing Bio Fermented Oligopeptide.

It might be the first time you have heard of this ingredient, so in this blog we explore what this ingredient is and how it can help your skin.

Before we look at Oligopeptides, we first need to understand a bit about Peptides.

AMPERNA® Peptides for Skin

What are Peptides?

Peptides are short chains of between two and fifty amino acids linked by peptide bonds. They are the building blocks of certain proteins. Due to their smaller size, peptides can be easier for the body to absorb than proteins.

Polypeptides, are longer chains, containing up to fifty amino acids. Once they become more complex, they are known as proteins. Proteins consist of one or more polypeptides arranged in a biologically functional way.

There are a large variety of peptides, including plant origin, bacterial/antibiotic peptides, fungal peptides and the list goes on. Whilst they naturally occur in the skin, they can be found in a number of foods including eggs, milk, meat, fish and shellfish, beans, lentils and oats. You can also find them in supplements.

AMPERNA® Peptides for Skin

Common peptide supplements that you may be familiar with include:

  • Collagen peptides, which may benefit skin health and reverse the effects of aging.
  • Creatine peptides, which may build strength and muscle mass.

How Peptides can Help Your Skin?

We have all heard of collagen, a protein found in our hair, skin and nails. Collagen peptides are broken down collagen proteins that the body can absorb more effortlessly. Taking collagen peptides may help:

  • Improve overall skin health
  • Improve wound healing. There is ongoing research into antimicrobial peptides, which may help to improve wound healing. Having very high or very low levels of some antimicrobial peptides may contribute to skin disorders, such as psoriasisrosacea, and eczema.
  • Reducing inflammation
  • Act as antioxidants
  • Slow the aging process such as improving skin elasticity and hydration.
  • Stimulate the production of melanin, a skin pigment, which may improve the skin’s protection against sun damage.

Another way to introduce peptides into your holistic skincare regime is through topical treatments, products, and cosmetics.

Introducing Bio Fermented Oligopeptide

Chains of fewer than ten or fifteen amino acids are called oligopeptides, and include dipeptidestripeptides, and tetrapeptides.

Bio Fermented Oligopeptide is a Yeast Ferment Extract & Soy Amino Acid that help to stimulate skin renewal, they actively help refine & restore skin texture and radiance safely. These ingredients help to resurface the skin via gentle and selective desquamation. The Bio fermented Oligopeptide that AMPERNA® uses has been developed using sophisticated molecular screening techniques and bio fermented from a proprietary strain of yeast. You can find it is these three new products:

The three new products are SUPERFOLIATE, SUPER RADIANCE and HYDRAPROTECT:

PRO+ BIO RESURFACING RETINOL RX [SUPERFOLIATE]

This gentle leave on Granactive Retinoid serum contains azelaic acid salt, niacinamide, liquorice root extract and zinc and copper gluconates to help calm redness and improve the skin’s appearance. Granactive Retinoid helps to renew skin plumpness, elasticity and hydration to provide a radiant and fresh appearance. It is also known to stimulate skin cell proliferation; restoring thickness to skin that has become thinner with age.

PRO+ BIO RESURFACING RETINOL ALT [SUPERADIANCE]

This gentle leave on bakuchiol serum is a pregnancy safe version of our Pro+ Bio Resurfacing Retinol RX serum. It contains azelaic acid salt, niacinamide, liquorice root extract and zinc and copper gluconates to help calm redness and improve the skin’s appearance. Bakuchiol is Pregnancy Safe versus the Granactive retinol. The benefits of bakuchiol is it improves skin brightness, helps achieve an even skin tone, increases plumpness, minimises enlarged pores, boosts firmness and smooth out fine lines. It is less known to cause irritation versus other retinols.

PRO+ BIO SOOTHING DAY MINERAL CC SPF15 [HYDRAPROTECT]

This lightweight, non-greasy physical SPF moisturising lotion is an adaptive formula and is suitable for all skin tones. Pro+ Bio Soothing Day Mineral CC SPF15 is not a tinted formulation. The slight tinted appearance of the formula is a result of the zinc oxide, titanium dioxide and mineral ingredients. HYDRAPROTECT contains zinc oxide making it a physical SPF. Physical SPFs are better suited than chemical SPFs for sensitive skin and conditions such as acne and perioral dermatitis.
